Jason Justice: Mobilizing Consciousness
Exhibition Dates: July 6-July 30, 2006
Opening Reception: Thursday, July 6th, 6-8pm
The University of Washington-Tacoma Gallery invites the community into
controversial arenas of discussion through its new exhibition,
MOBILIZING CONSCIOUSNESS, featuring the work of Bay Area artist and
activist Jason Justice.
Justice's work is inspired by principled values, human rights, and
aims to create an informed and educated community. Through graphic
design his vision and motivation is able to reach a large audience
nurturing an alert society. Justice believes, "graphic design is
about art and communication. Social change is about collective
liberation, mutual aid, self-determination and uprooting dominator
culture." Fusing the two together allows for a means to MOBILIZE
CONSCIOUSNESS, to break the confines of suppressed inequalities and
liberate societies through awareness and education. This exhibition
focuses on sexually transmitted disease, drugs and human rights. It
explores the concept of connectivity, collaboration and strength in
unity found in a solid community.
Justice has been working as an artist and activist in the Bay Area for over
fifteen years. He is a founding member of the Graphic Alliance and a
member of the Graphic Artists Guild. Some of his clients include,
DanceSafe, UniteHERE, Global Exchange, Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride, Students
for Sensible Drug Policy, Rainforest Action Network, Courage to
Resist, and Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, and others. From October
2005 - January 2006 Justice was featured in New York, The Museum of Modern Art's
exhibition "SAFE: Design Takes on Risk."
Please celebrate the power of community with our opening reception
Thursday, July 6th from 6-8pm.
